Delete your Settlers MMO account

Settlers MMO

This page explains how to delete your Settlers MMO account and the data that goes with it, and how to ask for a copy of your data. It applies to the game on Windows, Linux, macOS, Android and iOS, and to the website settlers-mmo.com.

Operator: see contact address

What your account is made of

  • The sign-in account at auth.settlers-mmo.com: your e-mail address, name and, if you use it, the link to your Google or Microsoft account.
  • Website records: your place on the waitlist and your approval, and your entries on lists of who may see a restricted world.
  • Game data, in each world you played: your player (its name and what it owns) and the things you built and sent.

Delete everything: the order that works

Step 1: your game data. In the game open Menu, then Account, then Delete account. That erases your player and the data the game keeps about you in the world you are in, right away; do it in every world you played in. (If your game version has no Account entry yet, or you cannot sign in, use the e-mail route below.)

Step 2: your website records and your sign-in account. Use the button below. It signs you in again (you need your password or your Google or Microsoft account), asks you to type a confirmation word, deletes the website records, and then takes you to the sign-in service to delete the account itself.

Do step 1 first. Once the sign-in account is gone you can no longer sign in to the game to delete your player there. If that happens, write to us (below) with your player name and the world, and we will erase it for you.

Deleting the sign-in account or the website records does not erase the data of a game world by itself. World data is erased by the in-game delete (right away) or by us on request.

Delete from this page

The delete button needs JavaScript. Without it, use the e-mail route below, or sign in at settlers-mmo.com.

Or ask us by e-mail

You can always ask for your account and data to be deleted by writing to contact@settlers-mmo.com. Say which Settlers MMO account (the e-mail address you registered with) and, if you played, your player name and the world. Write from the e-mail address of the account; if you cannot, we may ask you for something only the owner of the account knows.

We answer within 30 days of receiving your request, and tell you when it is done. A very complex request may take longer; we then tell you why within the 30 days.

What is deleted

  • the sign-in account: e-mail address, name, password hash, the link to Google or Microsoft, and the sign-in sessions
  • the website records: waitlist and approval, entries on world access lists, the notes the operators kept about you
  • in each world, at once when you use the in-game delete, or when we handle your request: your player and the things that belong to it (buildings, units, claims, messages). Anything that has to stay so that the world keeps working for the other players is made anonymous, so it no longer names you

What is kept, and why

  • A record of the deletion: the time and a one-way hash of the account number, nothing else, for 3 years. It lets us show that the request was handled and delete you again if an old backup is ever restored.
  • Backups that still hold your data until they are replaced: the nightly backups of the website and the sign-in service are kept 14 days (up to ten copies taken just before updates can be older); the backups of the game worlds keep the last 7 days and the last 4 Sundays, about five weeks at most. We do not restore deleted data into the live systems; if a backup has to be restored, we delete again what was deleted since.
  • Technical logs for security and fault-finding, which rotate by themselves (the Privacy Policy gives the periods).
  • Our correspondence with you about the request, up to 3 years.

More: Privacy Policy.

Request a copy of your data

You have the right to a copy of your data (GDPR Articles 15 and 20). Write to privacy@settlers-mmo.com from the e-mail address of your account, and name your player and world if you played. We send you a file in a machine-readable format (JSON or CSV) with your account details, your website records and your game data, within 30 days. The copy is free.

After the deletion

You are signed out everywhere, and the account cannot be brought back. You can register again with the same e-mail address later, but that is a new account and a new player with nothing from the old one.
